Transplanting Kiwi Tree Clippings - Gardens For Fun

Transplanting Kiwi Tree Clippings

Transplanting Kiwi trees by clipping from an existing pair is relatively easy here in the North West.  Kiwi trees grow well in our damp climate.  Most trees grow to be several hundred pounds in the first two years.

When transplanting kiwi trees, a piece of a male tree, as well as a piece of a female tree is needed.  This is so that both trees will eventually produce fruit.  Pairing them closely together helps insects move the pollen between the two easily.

Before deciding to plant two or more new kiwi transplanted clipped twigs: Place them in root start.  Most garden stores have root start for sale.

Homemade root start is also easy to make:

Find a willow tree

Cut 50 two inch branch pieces

Fill a ten gallon bucket up with water

Drop the 50 two inch long willow tree branch pies into the bucket filled with water

Let them sit in the bucket for 24 hours

Now the root start can be used

The kiwi vinery branch twig clips can sit soaking in the root start for a few hours, before being planted.

The roots and vine-like branches of a kiwi grow very fast.   They kiwi tree will get very heavy.  Building a few T frame trellises’ is important.  The trellis will keep the weight off the roof of your home, office, surrounding structures, and out buildings.

Bolting heavy cable between the T frame trellises will give the two plants a path to climb together producing cover, and after two years or so, an extreme amount of fruit.

During the first two years fortify the place where you plant to twigs from raccoons, and other animals.  These creatures love to chew on small tasty kiwi twigs.

Once the transplanted kiwi trees mature, you’ll want to share. These trees produce a lot of fruit.  Kiwi grow well in most semi-permeable almost clay-like North West soil.  They grow so well that clipping them back is a yearly necessity after the first couple of years.  In most cases this makes it easy to acquire clippings from friends or neighbors who have plenty to give.

Transplanting kiwi tree clippings is happily reproducing hundreds of pounds of fresh backyard grown kiwis in the homes gardens’ across the North Western United States of America.
